31 March - Tunisia (Tunis) PDF Print

James Whitmee

I am here in Tunis for this week looking at the real estate markets and what might have happened post the revolution. Tourist numbers are down to practically zero, and the hotels are really suffering, and some have closed. There will need to be some rebuilding. The Geant supermarket which is the largest in Tunisia, appears to have been destroyed in a fire. Any project which has an association with the ex-President and his family has stopped. The markets are described locally as being in a period of "stand-by" in anticipation of the elections at the end of July.
