James Whitmee The scale of real estate development in China is quite astonishing. I am now in Chongqing, having been in Guangzhou earlier in the week. The photo below is of the main commercial square in Chongqing, and the building under the red arrow is the Monument of Liberation. I was told that 15 years ago this was the tallest building in the city. The office skyscraper in the background is a copy of the Empire State Building and is called New York New York.
Unfortunately I missed the solar eclipse the other day by about 5 minutes as I was in the air. The light went down to something like a half-light and I could see the shadow over the land stretching across central China, so I did get a different perspective of it, but I would have preferred to have been in the right place on the ground. |
